with several homes, but the extreme amount of fire, it went to three alarms with 120 firefighters on the scene. and like you said, the damage was sustained at a single- family home. >> only one person received minor injuries. we also heard reports that firefighters were going door to door to make sure that everyone is okay. >> right. >> we have evacuated. made sure we have an account for all the citizens in the area. there were two people that were treated for minor injuries. one minor burn and one cut. and 14 to 16 people have been displaced and they are being relocated to the community center. >> reporter: any cd how this happened -- any idea how this happen? >> no, that is under investigation by the city fire marshal. >> do you know where it started and which homes? >> reporter: yes, that's identified. >> reporter: was it the middle

home? >> no, it went from one structure and the wind and the heat spread it house to house. and the heat was affected and the melding of the siding on the surrounding homes in the area. >> reporter: another part that i have been seeing, people with masks on, because even residence, they are covering their faces because the smell is so potent that the smoke is just sod baa -- so bad. but also the chemicals in the air right now. >> reporter: right, the vinyl siding, they have made a boundful, you know, product. and it sets off gases. and it should be self- eliminating over time. >> reporter: lastly, how long are you going to be here? are you cleaning up right now? >> the fire is contained. they are going to mop up the other fires right now. and to tell you about the investigation and to make sure that all of them are relocated. >> three homes destroyed. four others are damaged.

you can see them still trying to figure out what caused the massive fire. no one injured. and a hand, minor injuries there, but right now, trying to figure out what caused this fire. live here in the city of manassas, surae chinn, 9news now. >> all right, thank you. >> this one in virginia. and they were saying there was no sign of the accelerant here. they are just not sure what caused a fire to kill anita brikman mother and two of her children. they are still on the story and peggy, we know that three other children survived. what do we know about them and how they are doing tonight? >> reporter: well, the twod older children, an 8-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy, they are both fine tonight. and in fact, they could have been released from children's hospital. and the father, they did not want to leave, so they will all be released tomorrow. now, take a look. this is the burning house that

the three children escape from. the older two jumped out of the two-story window. and their mom, she was able to drop the baby into the arms of a friend. she saved those three kids lives, but she could not save herself or her 5-year-old. the family is trying to keep up the spirits by focusing on the three children that survived. and there is no smoke in their lungs. they are healthy, they were up day-to-day. the baby is doing great right now. >> she has taken that up today. and tomorrow, they are going to discharge it. when you have heard about that. as soon as you get up. >> reporter: now outside a home that burns, a makeshift memorial. people are leaving flowers and

also, collecting donations for the surviving children. we do have words from the fire department that the three who died, the two children and the mother, they all died of smoke inhalation. and we know more about that family friend. the nanny who was f catching the baby, still in the hospital with the tubes down that area. he will be fine. we're told. >> reporter: we're also told by the family that anderson was deemed evicted from his house here because she couldn't pay the bills. on monday, she had an appointment set up with the social worker that she was sick and couldn't make that appointment. she was going to be moving into a shelter for the time being to try to get her life back in order. but sadly that never happened and we know the tragic outcome then of being here. yesterday that is reported live. peggy fox, 9news now. >> thank you. in a little less than three hours, they will execute the first woman in nearly a century.

she is being held at the the greensville correction center. and lewis was convicted in 2002 or of the 2002 october murders of the husband and the stepson. prosecutors say it was for the insurance money. and lewis' attorney said that she is mentally spared. they declined to intervene. >> the 33-year-old was arrested yesterday. striking her 8-year-old daughter with a belt to the back. they are reported at the child's elementary school. and the mother was released on $1,000 unsecured fund. michelle reed's fiance says she will have plenty of job offers if and when she leaves her post as chancellor dc schools. that's far more than what she had to say after meeting with the dc council chairman, vincent gray, the man who defeated her boss, mayor fenty

in the democratic primary. bruce johnson was there when they ended their meeting, bruce? >> reporter: yes, lesli, it was the two of them. in a meeting that lasted one hour and 15 minutes. she didn't offer to resign after they are expecting to become mayor and they did not ask for her resignation. >> this is chancellor reed, after the meeting today. and to tell that to you earlier, this is not a decision- making meeting. >> we have not heard from the chons already since the primary. can you give us a decision as to what that is and you did not work with the chairman? >> you have campaigned for mayor fenty, your campaign lost, can you give us reactions to any of this? >> we didn't go that far as a

discussion. and what is unclear is if it will be be before they take office in january and later. and gray is criticizing her management trial, her firing of some teachers. most of the supporters want her gone. reed's husband to be, former nba guard in sacramento mayor, kevin johnson, shows you what most of them believe is the national star acing among the education reformers. >> they will meet again in the next week or two, and they will figure out if this is the right fit to stay in dc and if they want that. everybody that you could panel, they want her to work for her or their organizations. and to show you the total options. i don't think that they are staying with npc. >> reporter: mayor johnson knocked out rumors after the two got married in a private

ceremony. >> do you want to talk about the wedding? are you still singled? >> not married and not married yet. that's all i will say. i can't confirm anything else. i'll give you that. >> plus, no wedding band on. but back to the fiance, giving us more information than anybody today. and they have not ruled out staying in the gray administration. they have at least a decision as to whether or not to ask them or if they will meet again in the couple of weeks. >> we don't know much more going in. >> no, we don't. no one has made a decision. that's all we have. >> all right, thank you, bruce. new at 6:00, attorneys have reached a settlement in a lawsuit over a 2008 fatal crash on the bay bridge. john short died after swerving his tractor trailer to avoid hitting the oncoming car. the truck crashed through a jersey barrier and plummeted into the chesapeake bay, 30 feet below. their family has agreed to $100,000 settlement. he was only charged with traffic offenses.

they expect stores to employee up to 650,000 extra people for the holiday season. they will increase them by 65,000 and that is a slight increase from previous years. well, after this story aired last night in our 11 from maryland, viewers, they went to our website and they drove to share their own stink bug horror stories. the invasion is intensifying, and today, a virginia tech researcher says that the bumper crop of the brown bugs this year, appears to be much worse than last. and virginia cooperative extensions say that to be assure that while the bugs are a little annoying, it's not going to damage the home, but it will make a mess of your crops and your fruits. so coming up at 7:00, you'll see how the bugs are disrupting life in montgomery county. we've got some sweet neighborhood news for you. this saturday, wildfire is

high temperatures neither 95. winds are out of the southwest from 10 to 20. at this point, record highs are likely. where all the record highs for tomorrow. and now, nationals, 94. dulles, 92. both of which, they were set back in 1970. both of which, they are in jeopardy. and it will be our 66th day of the0-degree -- 90-degree weather or higher. on the two days of the 90- degree weather after tomorrow, we'll set a new record. why not? highs tomorrow, 94 in gaithersburg. 95 in college park. 94 in bowie. maybe even 96 in articlington and 93 -- arlington and 93 in sterling and reston. mid-90s tomorrow. then mid-80s on saturday. we're going in the right direction. upper 70s on sunday and monday. and some clouds, they come in on sunday. they should stay dry. looking at maybe some showers and thunderstorms on monday and tuesday. a little bit unsettled. temperatures are close to average. then a little warmer as we get into thursday, sunshine returns. low 80s again. >> low 80s.

a tenure providing five straight losing seasons. one that also rebuilt the team's infrastructure, improving the roster through the free agency and the draft. and his advice was often unheated by ownership. apparently, he's ready for a change. nats owner, ted learner, praising him tonight. saying he will always be an important part of the history to the nationals, winning their bid from major league baseball. his agreement to serve as the executive for the last five years has been critical to building the franchise. >> today, ryan zimmerman is out with sprained ribs. the 13th of the year. then if the many sixth, they are up again. and he drilled that down the line. as they score, all the way from first scores. they are about to win their third straight. leading 5-2 in the 7th. no offense to redskins safety, who got beat by all of them on the 4th and 10th play. in a perfect world, he would have never been in that game
